The PPP has done what comes naturally to a dynasty mindset - appointed Benazir's inexperienced 19-year old son as the dejure Chairman, and her widower as the defacto Chairman. The similarities to our Gandhi family and the Congress are only too obvious.
Why? Are our countries so devoid of leadership material, that only a family gene can guarantee talent? I refuse to accept this as a fact. This trait seems to run in the developing world only. Look at the developed nations across the world - the US, the UK, Germany, France, Japan!! Leadership is hard-won, through promises backed by performance.
This trend runs not only in politics, but even in the Indian corporate sector. Son follows father as Chairman or CEO.
How can we change this?
